Meal Packaging

August 27th, 2009

PACKAGING MEALS FOR “IMPACT LIVES”

Thank you to all Clubbers for not only donating over $900.00 towards Impact Lives, but also for packaging the meals.  On Tuesday, August 25, we met for a picnic, cookies and lemonade.  Then we watched an informational video and learned how to assemble the meals.  We were able to assemble hundreds of meals that will feed starving families in India.  God is so great and HUGE.  He chooses to use children to feed thousands.  We praise God and thank you for all you have done.  This photograph shows some of our Clubbers praying over the food.  We prayed for safe delivery of the meals, that God would use this for His glory, and that many would come to know Christ through this ministry.

dsc_05461Congratulations to both our boys and girls AWANA  teams.  They won first place at the AWANA Games held March 28th in Bloomington.  They played hard against three other churches and came out the victor.  We had so much fun training and competing in the competition.  We pray that God was honored by our sportsmanship and hard work.  We also had fun during the post-game party that included shirt signing and ice cream treats.

Clubbers, Start Your Engines

February 25th, 2009

The Awana Grand Prix is a Pinewood Derby-style outreach event founded in 1964 to draw fathers to club to hear the gospel message.

The Awana Grand Prix is a family-oriented affair that allows clubbers to express their ingenuity by creating and racing their own wooden Grand Prix cars while enabling clubs to share God’s plan of salvation with clubbers’ unsaved family members by attracting them to a fun event involving their child. Many clubs include a special race for parents and leaders caught up in the excitement of crafting their own cars. Grand Prix events usually last about two hours or the equivalent of one club meeting.

Weeks before the race, clubbers purchase small pine blocks of wood and plastic wheels from which they construct their cars, usually with the help of a parent or leader. FCC also offers a “Grand Prix Construction Workshop” to help beginners and those not mechanically gifted.

The cars race on a wooden four-lane track. Awards are given for both design and speed. Clubs award first-, second- and third-place trophies for each category. Each clubber who participates also receives a ribbon.

The Grand Prix provides a challenging, stimulating change in the club year that can draw children back after holidays or a drop in attendance. Children’s parents also get involved and the gospel is presented after check-in but prior to races so unsaved family members hear God’s plan of salvation clearly presented. The Awana Grand Prix is not only a fun activity but a powerful tool for reaching unsaved dads.

AwanaGames: Exhilarating Fun, Eternal Focus

February 25th, 2009

AwanaGames™ pits clubs and youth programs from local churches in competition in 10 events at the local, state, regional and national level. AwanaGames is open to students in T&T.

AwanaGames offers many benefits. Clubs develop a stronger identity and closer bonds amongst members. Kids are also motivated to attend club and complete handbook and manual sections to qualify for their team, learning God’s Word in the process. Area churches and leaders are also able to connect with each other in an atmosphere of fellowship. Leaders are also able to interact one on one with clubbers’ parents. Most importantly, the gospel is presented at each AwanaGames competition, allowing unsaved family members and friends in attendance a chance to hear and respond to God’s plan of salvation, some for the first time.

AwanaGames is a win/win competition.

AwanaGames typically consist of the following 10 events.
1. Bean Bag Relay
2. Sprint Relay
3. Three-Legged Race
4. Balloon Volley
5. Sprint Race
6. Four-Way Tug
7. Marathon Relay
8. Bean Bag Grab
9. Marathon Race
10. Balloon Relay

Truth & Training Clubs: 3rd through 6th grade boys and girls

February 25th, 2009

The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third- through sixth-grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives.

Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow — today..

Exciting features to get kids excited about God’s Word

Four handbooks of increasing difficulty which teach children that life’s ultimate adventure is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

A cast of fun characters that boys and girls learn from and follow on interesting journeys in the handbooks

Weekly meetings that expose children to the gospel message, Scripture memory, Bible study, awards, team-oriented games and gut-busting fun.

A Bible-centered curriculum that helps kids build a firm foundation for their faith, hide God’s Word in their heart and apply the truths of Scripture to their daily lives

Interactive CDs that use exciting high-tech games to teach and reinforce key biblical truths.

Evangelism and discipleship go hand in hand in our third- through sixth-grade program.

By the time a child has completed T&T, he will have:

  • Learned and reviewed approximately 310 verses
  • Studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testament
  • Regularly heard and read the gospel message
  • Discovered the Bible’s response to questions like “How does God want me to live my life?” and memorized verses to back up these answers
  • Completed missions projects that help him see the world through God’s eyes.

SPARKS: kindergarten through 2nd grade

February 25th, 2009

SPARKS builds on the material taught in our preschool club. The aim of the curriculum is to take youngsters a step deeper into God’s Word while giving unsaved boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ. After being immersed in solid foundational teaching at the preschool level, boys and girls frequently come to an understanding of their need to trust Christ as their personal Savior while in Sparks.

Immersing kids in God’s Word

The Sparks program is firmly grounded in Scripture. The three handbooks feature:

Basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible

An increased emphasis on Scripture memory over our preschool materials. In three years, a child will learn and review 68 verses, many of which cover salvation and key Christian doctrine.

Clear and consistent presentation of the gospel message

Sparks combine learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement. Club meetings are divided into three segments:

  • Bible teaching, worship, award presentations and the gospel message
  • Small group interaction and completion of Bible-based lessons
  • Age-appropriate games on the Awana game circle

Along the way, Sparky, the friendly firefly, encourages boys and girls to learn verses and complete assignments throughout the three handbooks

The theme of the first handbook is “Jesus in the past.” The second book’s theme is “Jesus in the present.” The theme of the third book is “Jesus in the future.”

Before working in a handbook, newcomers to Sparks complete an entrance booklet that introduces them to the program and begins teaching them basic Bible truths.

Cubbies: for preschoolers

February 25th, 2009

Cubbies for preschoolers is built on two premises:

  • Young children can and should receive spiritual training.
  • Home is the primary place for spiritual training.

We meet these needs through fun – and lots of it!
Awana is fun with a purpose – to reach and train kids for Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our preschool program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand.

Cubbies Curriculum Outline

The Cubbies curriculum features two handbooks written in a fun, storybook style that appeals to preschoolers. The handbooks contain 24 Bear Hug sections along with six optional special-day sections. Each section combines basic Scripture memory with parent-child activities to help a child grasp a simple biblical truth. Two extra-credit handbooks containing additional memory verses and character-building activities are also available.

Before starting a handbook, newcomers to Cubbies are taken through an introductory brochure that gives parents and children a brief overview of the program and presents God’s plan of salvation at a preschooler’s level. Cubbies must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 of current AWANA year.

In addition, all memory verses are presented at a level appropriate for 4-year-olds.

For example, John 3:16 reads: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son …
